YOU'VE GOT MAKEMAIL!
FEBRUARY EDITION
Hello lovely MakeBoxer, I hope you have had a great month, I’m thrilled to send you the latest edition of the MakeMail.
It’s time for a new mantle display! Each season I love to bring a new mini display into my home and studio. As you know I do love different craft types, I think making and mixing a combination of types of projects can create a complete look. This month I’ve loved using painting and printmaking to decorate my mantle. Combined with some candelabras, and vases. Painting is a wonderful skill that can be framed and kept for a lifetime. See the Stamp Collectors Box here.
Tirzah Garwood: Beyond Ravilious at Dulwich Picture Gallery
We visited, by chance the Garwood exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery. It was a rainy Sunday, and we were looking for something to do to get out of the house.
It was a happy accident, and the exhibition is wonderful. To give you the basics Tirzah Garwood was the wife of a famous author Eric Ravilious, Garwood was a stand-alone fine artist, excelled as a fine artist and print maker, this retrospective marks the first time the full extent her output has been shown, giving these captivating works the critical examination and public showcase they deserve.
As a crafter her work was truly inspirational. It marks stages of her life from having children and a successful commercial print making career, selling her marbled designs to stores like Liberty. To her tragic end spending years in bed battling breast cancer, creating imaginary works (comparable to Frida Kahlo) from bed.
The work ranges from beautiful three-dimensional printed box frames, which inspired my “Stamp Collectors Box”, to marbled prints, wooden prints and embroideries. All with a lot of focus on the British countryside, fine detail, and whimsy.
The exhibition runs 19 November 2024 - 26 May 2025 at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.
Bad People is the first podcast for BBC Sounds produced in partnership with The Open University, and it’s not one for the faint-hearted.
From grisly murders to sadistic rituals, no topic is off-limits for Julia and Sofie, as they discuss some of the most heinous and disturbing criminal cases in modern history, and ask the difficult questions about the psychology that motivated them.
Amandaland is the spin-off of Motherland, starring potentially the funniest character from it’s big sister. Amanda, aka Lucy Punch.
Amanda is an obnoxious, stuck-up wannabe influencer in her mid-forties stating her life again in a cheaper side of London, now only partially supported by her ex. Amongst the truly entitled behaviour she has vulnerabilities and love-abilities that make her the perfect anti-hero.
Although saying this Amanda defiantly was my favourite character from Motherland, but I now am leaning towards Ann; the woman she would never accept as her best friend. And her mother, played to perfection by Joanna Lumley, how does she always find the perfect roles?
Great cast, brilliantly written, excellent energy.

Anyone else willing spring to arrive, why is it still so COLD! Anyway I’m forcibly wearing all things spring, (with a few layers, I’m not a mad woman). I’m adoring the new Joanie Dresses. They are such pretty prints, flattering shapes and room to layer! Look out for an amazing giveaway we are co-hosting in the 27th Feb!
